We are planning a sort of Irish wake at the house the afternoon of Jan 24. Consider this a group invitation to the NMR community.

For those who would like The Rest of the Story...

He had a rough summer. As some of you may know, he had an artificial (porcine) heart valve, dating back to a blood infection in 1984. They replaced the valve again in 2001, and it was leaking during the last year or so. He ended up very ill this summer, but they were able to replace the valve, and he'd been home for 3 months, and doing well.

He started feeling badly about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, but no one realized it was serious. Turns out, he had another blood infection. He was hospitalized a week later, and they were frantically treating all the resulting issues. But he suffered septic shock, which deprives most of the vital organs of oxygen, leading to multiple organ failure, and beyond the ability of medical treatment to fix.
