Friends,

Thank you very much for your responses. They were very helpful. They reminded me of some things that I should of remembered and informed of some things that I was not aware of.

Some people suggested that the vibrations shouldn't be a problem, others thought it would, some wanted more information, some suggested alternatives to using a jackhammer. Some people describe extreme situations that magnets survived.

After talking with the person in charge of the project and giving him an estimate of how much it would cost to replace a magnet if the absolute worst thing happened, he decided that they could use a saw. It will take them two to three times longer, but produce a lot less vibrations. The cryogens in the magnets have been topped off, and the fingers are crossed.

I very much appreciate everyone who responded.
thank you.
Jay
