I asked for suggestions about my non-plotting plotter.
Suggestions were:
configuration problem (4)
smoke escaped
hardware problems- parts not returned after fan replacement
??? but solved by several power cycles
replace the RS232 interface
My electronics shop assured me that no smoke escaped during the fan
replacement and that all parts had been returned to their homes. I had
already tried power cycling, but tried some more - it didn't work.
The problem with the checking configuration was that I don't have the
correct manual, and no one had any suggestions on how to get into the
configuration menu. So, I tried the ever-popular (at least among my
users) approach: push every button in combination until something
happens. Eventually something did, and more importantly, something
useful. The problem was indeed a total misconfiguration, and the
plotter is now working.
To get into the configuration menu:
Push "Next Display" until a display contains a "Softkey"
Push "softkey" and "Enter" together.
Push "Next Display"
The Display should now read HPIB
Push the button above HPIB and confirm that the address is 05
Monitor Mode Off
Enhanced (not Standard)
Serial Data Remote Standalone
Bypass Off
Handshake Hardware Direct
Parity 8 bit off
Baud 9600
Duplex full duplex
You will need to push "Next Display" to get to some of these. Also,
most settings toggle thru the possibilities- don't forget to press
"Enter" to accept the new setting.
When done with all the settings, Push "enter" and "next display"
together, this should bring you back to the HPIB menu. Press "enter"
and "next display" together and you should get back to the main menus.
On a related note:
We buy pens from Cad-One 800 232 3335 I don't know if they have a
website (when I need to order, I just pull out the last order and copy
the info). I use the Pentel drafting pens. I only buy black, so I
don't know if they carry other colours.
thanks for the help,
kas
