The TopSpin environment is similar on both platforms (I use Linux and my
colleague on another campus uses Windows, for spectrometers of the same
generation with similar hardware). There shouldn't be any performance or
functionality issues (Bruker recommends the same host computer hardware for
both platforms). I find the main advantages to Linux are: Linux is more
stable, Linux is impervious to Windows viruses, Linux is largely ignored by
the IT department, the lack of general familiarity with Linux discourages
users from using the spectrometer host computer for non-spectrometer
related activities, the flexibility and utility of shell scripts.
