Agilent/Varian Cryobay models have APC Smart-UPS units in them which interface with the cryobay controller through a DB9 9-pin serial connector. In the event that you have to replace one of these UPSs, the current APC models do not have this connector on them, but rather an RJ45 connector. APC provides an RJ45 to DB9 adapter cable, but plugging the original cable into this does not work, since APC has also made changes in the communications interface. After some investigation with APC, it was found that in order for the replacement UPS to work in the cryobay, you need to purchase an APC model that will accept a SmartSlot card, for instance the SMT1000, and then purchase the APC AP9620 Legacy Communications SmartSlot card to go in it. When the DB9 connector on the cable to the cryobay controller is connected to the DB9 connector on this card, things work normally.
