Title: Assistant Research Scientist
To assist in the operation of a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) research facility. Perform experiments, analyze data and provide service to the science community both within and outside of the Department of Chemistry. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Director in managing operational aspects of the University of Iowa Central NMR facility. The facility, located within the Department of Chemistry, is committed to providing users across campus with exceptional research and learning experiences by continually enhancing the quality of instrumentation and by meeting their needs in a timely fashion. At present, the Facility houses nine spectrometers with operating frequencies ranging from 300 to 600 MHz, and supports over 25 research programs spanning multiple University Colleges and Departments.
Qualifications and Experience
*A Ph.D. degree (in Chemistry, Physics or Biochemistry) or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. *3 or more years of progressively responsible experience in NMR spectrometry and the conduct of engineering or physical science research is required. * Experience with WINDOWS and UNIX operating systems is required. *0-2 years of Post-Doctoral experience in NMR-related research in one or more fields of Chemistry or other related disciplines is desired. *Experience in solid state NMR spectroscopy demonstrated with publications and or training is desired. *Experience with NMR hardware and software; theoretical and experimental NMR spectroscopy is desired. * Experience with web site development and maintenance is desired. * Experience in providing customer service in a professional manner and the ability to work well with others is desired.
