Thank-you to the many people who answered my initial inquiry. There are a
few more things that I should have included initially; some of you already
addressed these questions.
If you have some type of electronic access (pushbutton, RFID, magnetic),
has it ever failed? What about power outages?
If there is a "hard" key in addition to the electronic lock, who has copies
of this key?
If you have an electronic key like our new system, who puts students or
other users on it and how do you take them off? I know when students start
using the NMR (since I train them before they are allowed to use it) but I
don't know when they quit doing research.
I also should have mentioned that our system uses a proximity-reading RFID
chip in newly issued IDs. It apparently needs to be within a few inches of
the reader to work. Waving one near our shielded 600 (a few inches from
the '"can" at about the height of the coil) apparently affected neither the
RFID chip nor the magnetic stripe that is used at the bookstore, dining
center, etc., much to my surprise.
I will post a summary of the responses to these and the original questions.
Thanks again
