I would also be very interested in opinions on TopSpin/Linux for open access. Both from
a stability standpoint as well as the user interface.

We are using an Avance 300 with XwinNMR 2.6 / SGI and IconNMR for open access. Although
this software is now almost 5 years old, we haven't been motivated to upgrade. Frankly because the
system works so well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This has to be the most reliable instrument
(hardware and software) that I have ever dealt with, and my users love the interface.

However, perhaps it is time to move on, and I guess our options would be:

XwinNMR 3.X on the current R12000 SGI (smallish disk, but otherwise OK)
XwinNMR 3.X on LINUX
TopSpin 1.3 on LINUX

For instrument control, I think I prefer to stick with UNIX/LINUX rather than Windows.

Any opinions (TopSpin stability and interface) on the above combinations would be appreciated.

Thanks
-Kirk

Subject: Topspin 1.3/Linux for open-access NMR

  Hello,

Does anyone have a strong feeling about using the current version of
Bruker's TopSpin (1.3) on a Linux platform for open-access spectroscopy?
Our current SGI/Xwinnmr 3.5 systems are pretty stable, so I am mostly
wondering about stability, not features.

  Thanks,
  Walt
