Dear Josep,

I have done something may suit your need by means of a Linux Box as the
intermediate disk server between the SUN and the PC.

1) The SUN export the required data disk as an NFS file system; say
/datadisk. You have to add a line in your /etc/dfs/dfstab file as

   share -F nfs -o ro -d "/datadisk" /datadisk

The option -o ro stands for readonly to protect the data from being
accidentally deleted by unauthrorized user. You can use -o rw if you
dont't mind that or you want read/write access.

2) The Linux Box mount the NFS disk of the SUN computer (say hostname
mysun) with an entry in the /etc/fstab file, such as

   mysun:/datadisk /datadisk nfs exec,dev,suid,rw 0 0

3) The Linux Box export the mounted nfs disk thru samba by including
an entry in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.

4) Mount the samba disk by using standard Window (9x/NT/2000/XP) mapping
   network disk tool.

By the above mean, I can easily use my DVD/CD RW on my Window PC to burn
backup DVD/CD for my raw and processed data in all my SGI and SUN
computers. Of course nowadays, there are CD writer programs on the Linux
Box as well so that you may skip mounting your data disk to the Window PC.
But I prefer using the Window versions of DVD/CD rewriter programs.
