Hi Xu,
I actually like the noise, those chirps reports on cold head operations, an d
their absence is an immediate alarm to investigate. I wouldn't recommend
eliminating the noise entirely were it possible. Our dewar has a soft wrapping
around it to dampen the volume, from touch/appearance I'd say it's all
synthetics and foam. We sourced it directly from QT as part of the original
install and would assume it's purchasable as a stand alone accessory. You
could probably assemble something custom yourself to achieve similar results.
I haven't noticed the chirping volume being any more severe than for helium
cooled cryoprobes. Users might find it annoying from personal preference,
but it doesn't rise to safety concern in my opinion. The HR3 compressor on
the other hand is much louder. Thankfully it only turns on during high boil
off scenarios which are either rare or predictable such as fills. I suggest/offer
ear protection to users working long experiments while it's running.
