NMRNET/Particularities

Hello:
Someone recently mentioned a problem with NMRNET. I would like to
relay a recent experience I had.
One of the beauties of NMRNET is that it works well with older (i.e.
386) systems. However, one problem I keep encountering is that although
two systems will be similar (same cpu and clock speed), the software will
work on one system and not the other. For example, I was trying to set up a
386/40 PC for NMRNET only to have it fail (fdir would work, but as soon as a
file transfer was initiated the PC would lock up). Yet this same software
and Computer boards CIO-DIO/24 card would work beautifully in another 386/40
system! In another instance, I replaced a 386/25 cpu system with a 486/66
PC, and although NMRNET works okay strictly for data transfer, a FDIR
command issued from the PC will fail and the program dies. I guess my
question to the NMR audience is this: Are there any set of BIOS options
and/or PC systems that NMRNET seems to work the best with? Has anyone tried
running NMRNET on a Windows 95 system, and is there a chance a LINUX version
will be showing up?

Best regards,
Bill
