Interactive Computer Simulation/Visualisation of ESEEM and Pulsed ENDOR
Spectra.

The Centre for Magnetic Resonance and the Department of Mathematics are
collaborating with the EPR Division of Bruker Analytische Messtechnik in the
development of an interactive computer simulation/visualisation software
environment for the analysis of randomly oriented ESEEM and pulsed ENDOR
spectra. Facilities at the University of Queensland include a
multifrequency (Q-, X- and S-band) EPR spectrometer, variable temperature
facilities (1-9-700K), Silicon Graphics Workstations (Solid Impact-R10000,
numerous Indy R5000's and a dual processor R10000 Challenge) and the
Universities Silicon Graphics Super Computer (Power Challenge, 16
processors). Bruker will provide expertise in relation to their Xepr data
acquisition/manipulation software environment and access to pulsed EPR and
ENDOR facilities.

We are seeking motivated personnel in the areas of pulsed EPR/NMR
spectroscopy, computer visualisation software development and X windows
programming to join our multidisplinary research group in the University of
Queensland, St. Lucia, Australia.

PhD. EPR/NMR SPECTROSCOPIST

This position requires an experienced and highly motivated scientist with a
PhD in physics, chemistry or a closely related discipline with two or more
years' experience in the areas of pulsed EPR or NMR spectroscopy. The
successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the theoretical
aspects of pulsed EPR or NMR spectroscopy and be able to competently
programme in C. Strong written and verbal communication skills are
essential for the formal documentation of research results and productive
interactions in a multi-disciplinary research team environment. The
position is available for three years beginning February 1, 1997 and the
successful applicants salary will be commensurate upon the applicants
background within the range $30,537-$38,587 (Australian). Superannuation
benefits and a one way airfare to Brisbane will also be provided. There
will be opportunities for attending international conferences and visiting
Bruker.

PHD SCHOLARSHIP

A PhD scholarship is being offered in the area of scientific visualisation.
The project will involve (i) the development of software tools for the
visualisation of two or more three dimensional data sets obtained from ESEEM
or pulsed EPR spectroscopy, (ii) the visualisation of pulse sequences upon a
spin system and (iii) the development of new pulse sequences for the
characterisation of complex spin systems. While most of this research will
be performed at the University of Queensland the successful candidate will
be expected to interact with computer programmers in Bruker and to also
visit Bruker in Germany. The stipend will be at the level of an Australian
Postgraduate Award which is currently $15,364 per annum.

SUMMER VACATION SCHOLARSHIP

A summer vacation scholarship is being offered to a third level student with
experience in X-windows programming. The successful applicant will be
involved in the development of an X windows interface for the pulsed EPR and
ENDOR computer simulation environment which will directly interface into
SOPHE (our continuous wave EPR simulation programme) and Xepr, Bruker's data
acquisition and manipulation software environment. The position will be
able in the first instance for 3 months and will attract a salary of $5,000.
