3M has an entry level scientific staff opening for a spectroscopist
skilled in both IR and NMR spectroscopies at the 3M Corporate Research
Analytical Laboratory located in St. Paul, MN. The candidate will
apply spectroscopic techniques, primarily IR and NMR, to the
characterization of unknown materials for problem solving purposes.
The position will involve a mix of laboratory work and spectral
interpretation (using our extensive collection of reference databases)
and will complement our talented staff of IR, NMR, and mass
spectroscopists. The nature of our corporate analytical facility
ensures experience with a wide variety of materials and the
opportunity to be involved with challenging problems ranging from
analysis of impurities and surface defects to analysis of competitive
products. The laboratory is currently equipped with state of the art
IR and NMR spectrometers. The requisite skills include infrared and
NMR spectroscopy, organic chemistry, and a general familiarity with
other analytical techniques. Good written and oral communication
skills are essential for communicating with problem solving teams and
for documenting results. Experience in Raman spectroscopy of
polymeric materials is a plus. Applicants should have recently
(within the last 2 years) obtained a Ph.D. where both IR and NMR
spectroscopy were heavily utilized.
If you have these qualifications and are an enthusiastic self-starter
with the desire to contribute to an innovative corporation, please
