Please distribute the following job posting as widely as possible to
anyone who might be interested in this position for an
electronics/instrument technician here in North-East Ohio.

We recently got approval for a new position to be housed in the
chemistry department here at Youngstown State University. YSU is a state
assisted urban university in North East Ohio having approximately 13,000
undergraduate and masters level students. The Chemistry Department has 16
faculty and offers BA, BS, and MS degrees is chemistry (including a
concentration in Biochemistry and I hope soon ones in environmental
chemistry and chemical education). The department has hired 10 new
faculty in the last five years and similar renewals have occured in the
Biology and Physics departments which are also housed in Ward Beecher
Hall. Along with these departments and others on campus we are developing
special expertise and concentration in areas as diverse as environmental
science, molecular biology, and non-linear optical materials. To support
these efforts we have aquired or had funded (and are now purchasing) about
$750,000 in new electronic instrumentation over the 1994-96 period. These
items include:

Two Siemens P4 X-ray diffractometers including low temperature
and multi-wire area detector.

A Varian Gemini-2000 400 MHz NMR spectrometer that has low
temperature and broad band capabilities and which will soon be upgraded
with pulsed field gradient capabilities and an auto sampler.

A Finigan GCQ GC-MS with solid state probe.

A computer lab with SGI and PC Workstations and SUN workstations
in the NMR lab.

The new electronics staff member would be responsible for
maintenance and upgrading on these and other electronic instruments
(principly those in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics). The initial salary
is in the range of $33,900 to $48,432 which is excellent given the very
low cost of living in this part of ohio (salary range is $33,900 to
$62,694). [Note: YSU offers tuition remission for staff, their spouses,
and their children.] Funds would also be available for instrument specific
and advanced training. We are looking for someone with a strong practical
background in modern scientific instrumentation (e.g. 5 or more years
experience and/or a Bachelor's or Masters degrees, or equivalent
combination of education and experience). Requires extensive experience
with all areas of electronics, particularly, RF, FM, and Microwave with
both high power/high voltage and low voltage/high sensitivity circuitry.
This position is available immeadiately and applications are now being
accepted.
