probes

Hello everyone,
Kurt Wollenberg has just sent out an interesting summary about
Bruker vs. Nalorac probes. We are also in the market for a 5 mm
inverse PFG probe for our Varian Unity 400. I notice that quite a few
Varian users are purchasing Nalorac probes. I'm therefore asking if
any of you could please let me know how Nalorac compares with
Varian for quality, performance and reliability for a probe of this
type. In addition, our probes at present are old style Varian (with 90
degree pulses in the 20 microsecond range). I assume, therefore, that
our present shimsets will be useless. How difficult will it be to shim
one of these new generation probes from scratch? (funding here is
rather tight - we'd like to avoid the installation fee if possible and
gradient shimming will not be available - we won't have the amplifier
for some time yet!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
