It's a good time to write your Representatives and Senators (see
http://www.siu.edu/departments/shops/scipoli1.html for help) and urge them
to make sure they finish the appropriations bills for NSF and NIH before
they quit this year.
As an ACS mailing says: "The completion of work on these bills is critical,
or else science will be faced with a continuing resolution (CR) scenario. A
CR is passed when work has not been completed on the regular appropriations
bill. At this point, NSF and NIH are headed for a situation in which they
would be funded at either the House, Senate, or FY 1996 level whichever is
the lowest. One need only look back to last year to see how damaging a
continuing resolution can be to science."
