We have just started using DAT (supposedly holds 2 GB) with our new
system, and I would like to know how they have proven unreliable. The
tapes are always kept outside the 5 gauss line and are stored in an
controlled environment (humidity and temperature-wise, i.e. 24 hr
airconditioning). They are quit slow, archiving +300 KB in half an hour,
but it can be done in the "background", so other jobs on the computer can
proceed. The manual tells me that there are 3 levels of error correction,
which should take care of any errors. I have not yet tried to restore any
files from backup, though.
