The nmr is the pit is no problem in itself, but previous people have posed
the key factors about ventilation and drainage. There should also be an
indicator to make it clear that their is air coming from the duct --- eg. a
piece of ribbon.

The vertical ladder is an absolute no no in a lab environment --- wherever
I know of their use their have been problems - whether for access to
rooftop hazzards labs etc. Try carrying samples on vertical ladders,
samples get dropped or more frequently the chemist trying to keep from
dropping the sample falls --- ipso facto - a broken leg. (Real examples
from labs I have worked in in the past)

A proper stairway is required.
