You may replace the ajustable resistance (0-10K) yourself. I replaced all
shim resistances and everything are back to normal.
Call Digi-Key 800-344-4539
Part Number 73JA103 10/$96

We had this problem on several of our machines in the past. We just had
Bruker replace the unit. It was the quickest way to do it. It only takes a
few minutes to change, they can fed-ex one to you and you can easily do it
yourself

We suffered through this problem two summers ago on our
AC200. There were a number of behavioural problems including
those you have mentioned. We initially suspected that the
digital components were at fault so I ordered replacement A/D
converter and multiplexer chips for the encoder circuit and this
seemed to cure the problems - but they always returned within
minutes of the component change.
We looked at the behaviour in more detail and found that
not all the encoder selections were bad and this led us to look at the
interface board connections for the encoder inputs. If, like our system, your
connections are wire-wrapped, you will probably find that some of these
connections have started to suffer from oxidation - our system was nine years
old when this problem first appeared. We simply unwrapped the connectors,
cleaned the connecting pins and re-wrapped the wire. Operation has been
normal since that point.
If all your encoder selections are acting strangely then I would
suspect the multiplexer (or A/D), otherwise about an hour's work
cleaning up the connections should suffice.
I think we purchased the replacement chips from Newark
Electronics, but I'm sure your Bruker rep will be only too
happy to sell them to you as well!!

Yes. They do wear out. We simply replaced it. Part number 22573
$150.00 from Bruker. I don't remember the details of replacing it- but
it didn't take more than .5 hr.

We have an AC-250. I replaced the shaft-encoder device on our
console a couple of years ago. This is a stock item that you can get
from Bruker. As I recall, their price on this was not TOO outrageous
(unlike many of their parts prices). As I recall, it was pretty
simple to replace.
You will have to first talk to a Bruker console engineer to get the
correct part number, then call Sandy Maness or Cheryl Roderick in the
Billerica office to place the order.
