Reservation Software

As I promised at the AMMRL meeting in Asilomar, I have prepared a copy
of my NMR reservation software for anonymous ftp. This package is now
available as
ftp.tamu.edu:/pub/Tools/NMR/reserve.tar.gz
This has been compressed with the gnu zip program, which is required by our
ftp site administrator to reduce storage space. If you have the gzip program
you can simply download this file and gunzip it on your machine. If you do
not have gzip installed, simply specify the file name without the .gz
extension and our ftp site will gunzip it before transmitting. The file sent
will be larger, but you will not have to gunzip it on your end. The .gz file
is only 53298 bytes, and the corresponding .tar file is 240640 bytes so that
it will take longer to transmit. Our ftp site has a copy of the gzip package
available as ftp.tamu.edu:/pub/Unix/Gnu/gzip-1.2.4.tar.gz. Again, you can
specify the file name without the .gz to have just the .tar file sent. The
gzip-1.2.4.tar.gz file is 226136 bytes, and the .tar file is correspondingly
longer, so I don't recommend getting this unless you just want to have it
available.

The reserve.tar file will unpack into a reserve directory containing all of
the reservation files. The makefile is set up and ready for a Sparc system
running Solaris 2.4 with the Cygnus gcc as supplied by Varian. For this
configuration, you can simply run 'make demo' to compile the package and
run the reserve program on a sample data base. Once you see how it appears
to the user, you can take apart the various configuration files and see how
it works. For systems running SunOs, edit the top portion of the makefile
according to the comments there. For other systems, you are on your own-
I don't have them and haven't tried them. The code should be quite portable,
however. If you get it running on a different system, send me the makefile
changes and I will add them to the next distribution.

Good Luck,
