Merck Research Laboratories in Rahway, New Jersey, a world leader in biological
and pharmaceutical research, is seeking outstanding candidates for a position as
a Biomolecular NMR Spectroscopist in the Department of Biochemistry.
The successful candidate will participate in the macromolecular structure
determination programs of the Biochemistry Department. The scientist will be involved in
the collection and analysis of 600 MHz NMR data in order to determine protein
structures and characterize protein-ligand interactions with the goal of obtaining
information relevant to drug design. Duties will include the assignment of protein
NMR spectra, the determination of protein structures from NMR data and computational
methods, and the evaluation of bound ligand conformations and interactions.
A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field and 2-3 years of post-doctoral
experience are required. Experience in modern 2D, 3D and 4D heteronuclear NMR as
applied to macromolecular-structure determination is essential. Familiarity with the
expression, isotopic labeling and purification of proteins is desirable.
The Biomolecular NMR group has a state-of-the-art facility, with two Varian 600 MHz
NMR spectrometers. Computational facilities that are available include a Cray Y-MP,
a Cray J90, an IBM SP2 and a compute farm of IBM RS/6000's.
