Hi, Michael. This is a little late, since I left town on March 7th & just got
back, but -- FWIW -- here is my $0.02 worth.

Karen Ann's suggestion of wooden steps is a good one. We started doing this
13 years ago, and currently use the idea with 4 magnets around here.

We've used locally-made (University carpentry shop) wooden steps made from
3/4" plywood, screwed together with BRASS screws, and painted. The steps are
12" deep, have a rise of 10", and are 18" wide for our 2-step box (360 MHz
narrow bore magnet) and 24" wide for our 3-step box (300 MHz wide-bore
magnet). They have an ovel hole through the back side -- near the top step --
so you can grab hold of it & move it around. Both boxes are quite stable and
give easy access to the shortest people we have had here (distinctly shorter
than you, Karen :-). They also provide nice stable platforms to stand on
during helium fills, etc. Particularly the 3-step box is heavy, but there is
seldom need to move them except during helium transfers.
