VXR-500 homogeneity

We are still having trouble with our VXR-500 lineshape and the Varian
serviceman is getting the same behavior I did: everything appears to be
working correctly, but the non-spinning lineshape is way too thick.

He would like to map the field, but we have the understanding that the Sun
computer system is needed for that and we have the VXR-4000 data systems. I
don't see my administration coughing up $25K for the conversion, but if we
don't bring this magnet home, the instrument will be unused.

Suggestions will be appreciated. (A grant proposal has been submitted to NSF
for the computer upgrades, but who knows - it may be in a mail bin still
because of the shutdown.)
