Dear All,
I want to determine the screw thread on the rod which is supplied
by Wilmad to insert their vortex plugs into 5 mm tubes. This does
not appear to be a metric size, and is probably a US
standard rather than European. Anyone know the size? My reason for
wanting this info is not to manufacture my own rods, but rather that
I want to buy, or even make, nylon (or similar) screws which can be used to
fill the hole in plugs whilst we use them to contain liquid crystalline
samples. So, even better would be to know whether nylon screws of the
same size can be bought in the US.

Wilmad Response:
Wilmad Vortex Plugs are made with an American 4-40NC thread. Until about a 6
months ago, though, the 5mm size was made with a 2-56NC thread. For 5mm
Vortex plugs, then, it will be necessary to determine the age of the plugs.
Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information.
