I recently took over the responsibility of managing our NMR facility,
which includes a GE GN500 and a QE300. [We also had a JEOL 270 wide bore,
which is now sleeping in boxes.] Although I (as a user) have been using
NMR as a major tool for my research for the past 17 years, I have never
been in the "care taker" position. I felt kind of intimidated by this new
responsibility. Therefore, it is a great relief for me to learn the
existence of this "NMR managers" group. You bet that I will be counting on
your experience in many ways.
Rudi suggested that I introduce myself to everyone. So, I will give
you my brief CV. I got my B.S. degree from Natl. Taiwan Univ. in Pharmacy
(1977), and my Ph.D. from Brown Univerisity in Chemistry (1984). I did my
postdoctoral training with Dr. Robert Abeles of Brandeis University, where
I got to use Refield's 500 MHz machine several times. [You guessed it. I
used the Redfield 2-1-4 pulse for water suppression.] Currently, I am an
assistant professor. My research interest is in the areas of enzymology
(specifically, protease mechanisms and inhibitions) and peptide chemistry.
It is nice to be part of this group. Hope I can also have some
contribution some day.
Sincerely,
T. Chyau Liang
