flat wire

If you don't need large amounts of flat wire, make it yourself with the
sheet metal roller in your machine shop. Use insulated magnet wire, and
remove the insulation afterward with a Scotch-Brite pad to avoid embedding
steel particles in the copper. It takes only a few minutes of trial and
error with input wire gauges and roller spacings to come up with the right
dimensions. Minimize the bending after rolling to avoid work hardening the
wire excessively, or anneal it in a furnace if you're so equipped.

It won't look as nice as store-bought, but the electrons don't care at all.
