Dear undergraduate P-Chem Instructors,
I have recently accepted an appointment in the chemistry department
at a small undergraduate liberal arts institution where I will teach P-chem
and P-chem lab. One of the pieces of equipment available to me is a small
electromagnet NMR: Varian model EM-360-A I am interested in perhaps using
the NMR to do a simple experiment to determine the rotational barriers of
small organic molecules. The EM-360-A is not a variable temperature
instrument, however.
Does anyone have suggestions for experiments using the EM-360-A or
similar low field EM NMR or know of how it can be converted to a variable
temperature instrument? I am also open to the possibility of purchasing a
used undergraduate level NMR with more advance capabilities.
