Is it possible that all of the liquid nitrogen was not flushed out of the
helium can on the precool stage? If this is the case there may be frozen
nitrogen (ice) in the helium can creating a blockage. This is cured by
completely warming the magnet and restarting the pumping and cooling process.
The other point is that the helium storage dewar from which the magnet is
being filled may be going empty. If this is the case the plume from the
magnet will have the same appearance as that of the magnet being full.
