Here is the letter I have faxed to a couple of house members. It could be
better, but it is short. Steal it for yourselves if you like.

The Honorable Jerry Costello
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Costello:

I have just read the text that pertains to the National Science Foundation
in the VA, HUD, and Independent Agencies Conference Report. I am both
thrilled and relieved that Congress is concerned enough about the backlog in
modernization of facilities like mine to consider such a generous increase
in support for academic research infrastructure. I urge you to support the
NSF with your affirmative vote for these appropriations.

Please call upon me if you would like to visit this Facility when you are
home and learn more about the challenges we face in providing suitable
facilities for undergraduate and graduate research and education.

Sincerely,

William C. Stevens, Ph.D.
Director
