Thanks to all who responded and apologies for taking so long to report
back on this. As I said before, if you need a letter bearing my signature
on my university letterhead in order to enhance your own salary negotia-
tions or on behalf of a prospective employee, I will provide it.
Academic NMR Labs in the U.S.

Salaries ranged from $27,900 to $77,000 in this group of 35 respondents.
The mean was $47,472 and the median was $46,000. The mode (most frequently
reported figure) was $52,000. Let's see if I can make a chart:
<$35K X
$35-39.999 XXXXXXXX
$40-44.999 XXXXXX
$45-49.999 XXXXX
$50-54.999 XXXXXXXXX
$55-59.999 XXXX
$60-64.999
$65-69.999
$70-74.999
$75-79.999 XX
Average years of experience were 13 and total megahertz averaged 1474. I did
not see significant correlations with either factor, nor did cost of living
seem to be a reliable predictor. These conclusions are just from
eyeballing, not from statistical treatment.
Relatively few respondents had significant staff and most had a PhD.
Industrial NMR Labs in the U.S.
_______________________________
Among 12 respondents salaries ranged from $42K to $82K and correlated
strongly with degree level and years of experience. With few exceptions,
industrial respondents were in high cost-of-living areas. The average
was $61,338 and the median would be $61,080. Most had a PhD and the average
years of experience was 8.9.

Salaries both in Canada and abroad seem significantly lower in both
academe and industry, but there were not enough responses to say anything
more meaningful than that.
