The sad thing is that they don't consider the cost of maintenance agreements
a valid argument at all because, given that they won't even budget 1 cent
towards instrument maintenance/repair, they wouldn't consider such a service
contract in their wildest dreams.
As far as equipment goes, I have 5 supercon spectrometers, and have been
forced to make-due with 1 150MHz O-Scope, a $35.00 Digital Multimeter,
and a Wavetek frequency sweeper. Of course I have an assortment of
attenuaters and the like, but with 3 of my five instruments operating
at 300 MHz or above, a faster scope would be nice! I manage to fix
everything (except magnet problems) with the above equipment.
At the top of my New Years Wish-List are:
1) A Hi-Vac pumping station, so I can cold-pump my dewars.
2) An Rf Spectrum Analyzer and/or (at least) a 400 MHz scope
3) A universal magnet power supply that would work with my Oxfords
AND my Varian R2D2 magnet.
