Thank you to all of those who responed to my request for information
on where to buy a reflection bridge (magic tee, or 180 hybrid
junction). I have been asked to post a summary.

SUMMARY FOLLOWS:
______________________________________________________________________

From: rolf tschudin <tschudin@speck.niddk.nih.gov>

1. First class bridges, expensive, Approx. 1000.-
Wiltron Co., 490 Jarvis Dr. Morgan Hill CA 95037 408 778 2000

2. Good bridges, approx. 400 to 500.-
Eagle Co., P.O. Box 9446, Wichita KS 67277 316 265 2050
Wide Band Engineering co.,Phoeniz AZ 85036 602 254 1570
Werlatone Inc., Brewster N.Y. 10509 914 279 6187

3. There are some do it yourself bridges I have see somewhere
but it would take me some time to find the source, which I do not
have right now because I am going on vacation. If you want it
I might dig it up in a month or so.

Best regards Rolf

P.S. Some bridges have a built in detector, saves you an extra
detector.

All you need is a directional coupler, such as the MiniCircuits
ZFD-10-21. To use, put the RF into the coupling port, the probe
to the IN port and monitor the match through the OUT port. Cost
- about $50 US. Dick Rosanske

We bought our bridge and several filters from
Eagle Wichita
P.O. Box 9446
WICHITA, KS 67277
Tel: (316) 942-5100
Fax: -5190

All these units have performed very well past two years. I am not
sure how much we paid at that time, but their price seemed to be
the least of all other manufacturers we asked at that time.

Glenn, Bruker sells them for ca. $200. I found out to my chagrin
that when I bought Wavetek's high dollar 1 GHz sweeper, that a
demodulator was not built-in or included with it. Their less
expensive units that go up to a few hundred MHz have one
(essentially a 25 cent diode) thoughtfully included for your
frequency sweeping convenience. You might check if your model
has one, so that you won't discover as I did that with sweeper
and bridge in hand, you still can't tune your probe.

I use a Mini-Circuits ZDC-10 Coupler:

Mini-Circuits,...1-800-654-7949 (old number...I think it's still
good) or.............. (417) 335-5935

You might also check with MR Resources, as they often have Rf stuff
at surprisingly reasonable prices...sometimes really expensive
too...
just depends on the phase of the moon or something :-)

Good Luck

What you want is a 180 degree hybrid junction that is made by:

Anzac
80 Cambridge St.
Burlington, MA 01803
(617)273-3333
Fax: (617)273-1921

Model #HH-107 Part #8001 Price = US$121 in 1993.

I got mine via:

Penstock East
124-B Little Falls Rd
Fairfield, NJ 07004
(215)383-9536

I would guess Anzac has a different local distributor for the
Northland.

Best of luck!

Try Eagle Wichita (316) 265-2050. They have several models of
high-accuracy low frequency (anything under 1GHz these days)
return loss bridges. You probably want the RLB150N3B ($389, 5-
1300 MHz, type N connectors) or the RLB150B1 ($269, 40 kHz to
150 MHz, type BNC connectors) depending on the spectrometer
frequency.
I use a Wiltron 62BF50 VSWR bridge (Wiltron (201)-227-8999), (10-
1000 MHz),
but I think it was a lot more expensive, and probably not any
better.

Both of these are internally terminated on the fourth port, so all
you need
is cables and a detector (which is inside the Wavetek).

For reflection bridges, try:

Trilithic Incorporated (formerly Texscan Corporation)
2446 North Shadeland Avenue
Indianapolis, Indiana 46219
317-357-8781

Many years ago I got a bridge, 5 calibrated mismatches, all
packaged in a wooden box, for around $100-$250. Memory is failing
and it was a long time ago anyway.

Another possibility, although I have no experience with them:

Narda Microwave Corporation
435 Moreland Road
Hauppauge, New York 11788
516-231-1700

Final option I know of is :

Mini-Circuits
2625 East 14th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11235
212-769-0200

If they have it, Mini-Circuits would probably be cheapest and
Narda most expensive. Narda seems to specialize more in high-
end, high frequency (microwave) components. The Texscan unit I
bought has been very reliable and servicable.

Hi Glenn, MR Resources (Gardner, MA, USA, 1-800-443-5486 or 508-
632-7000) sells Texscan reflection bridge RCB at ~ US$270. Good
luck.

I think I paid $3400 for a 500mhz sweeper/bridge/LCD display from
Morris instruments in Canada. I think its very cost effective.
