Acceptance tests on Varian UnityPlus600

Hello!

I am a newcomer to AMMRL although I have attended the AMMRL
meetings at ENC for the past two years and have read the email
archives (at least some of them), so I feel that I know alot of
you.

At this year's ENC, there was an excellent discussion group
on buying a new spectrometer. I think that when the summary
of this discussion is posted, it will make an excellent guide
for those of us in this position. I would like to post a query
about the next step in the process; that is, what tests should
be performed *after* the spectrometer is installed but before
it is accepted by the buyer?

Varian provides the buyer with a guide for standard acceptance
testing, which I believe is called ATP. But I gather that these
tests only examine the most basic of specs. Although I am currently
at Yale, I will shortly be moving to the Walt Disney Memorial Cancer
Institute, a new cancer center at Florida Hospital in Orlando. I
expect delivery of a Varian Unity Plus 600 machine to the center in
July. This machine will have 3 channels, 2 waveform generators,
and 2 gradient probes. Thus, I'll need to test out more than just
line shape, S/N, pulse widths, etc. I would greatly appreciate
advice on experiments that I could run to really put this machine
through its paces. These experiments should be ones that Varian
can run on their own without too much problem before shipping.
Please also include information on parameter settings, sample types,
and expected results. I will be more than happy to post a
compilation of the responses to this group.

Thank you in advance.

Barry
