Did you ever try ceramic tip pens?
They seem to work very nice, and since the ink container
is transparent, you know exactly when to change the pen.

What we have is from Graphic Controls, #63-21-0033
which are Pentel CXP35.

The disadvantage of these pens are that they dry easily,
so if the plotter hasn't been used for a few days,
the pens may take time to recover (r never recover).
For busy labs, they work pretty well.
