While we are not using that particular printer, we have been quite pleased
with the QMS 860 Print System. The QMS can be ordered with an Ethernet
interface, as well as serial, AppleTalk and parallel connections. All of
these interfaces can be used concurrently, with the printer autodetecting
activity. Our QMS 860 also is being used as a replacement for our HP7550A
plotters. The QMS understands HPGL and HP-PCL as well as Postscript, and
with the optional paper second paper feeder using 11x17 paper (preformated
for Varian format) plotting times are greatly reduced. The only trade-off
is the loss of color output. While this printer may cost some what more
than a straight Postscript printer, a single one can be used to replace
multiple printers and/or plotters.
