Greetings Spinlanders!

Thank you all for your replies and continued support as a stumble through
learning the ins and outs Varian systems. Below is the summary of the
responses

  1. Pull the boards/cables and reseat them. Oxide layer can build up and
 this helps break it.
  2. Check the clock frequency and make sure its stable. Check 40/80 MHz
from RF Gen.
  3. Power Supply, check the voltages and make sure they aren't below there
supposed output. Check them with AC also to ensure there isn’t a large ripple.
If there is you have a failing capacitor.
  4. Dead ethernet switch. Ping wormhole and confirm connectivity. Ping Master1
and confirm connectivity. Check the speed and success of the ping signals. To test
directly plug the host computer into the master and reset board.

It ended up being a dying ethernet switch. I could ping it but its speed and
success signaled it was dying. Confirmed by a direct connection to the host
computer (successful reset). For a double check I used a small 8 port switch
I had on hand to attach main boards together and obtain a signal in vnmrj.

Cheers all! Thanks for the advice!

C
