There is an available Full Time, Permanent (E14) position for an NMR facility manager at the Leibniz University of Hannover. Details below.

Best wishes

Russell Cox

Scientific Assistant (m/f/d) for the management and supervision of the NMR laboratory (EntgGr. 14 TV-L, 100 %)

to be filled from December 1, 2022. The position is open-ended.

The NMR laboratory has three 400 MHz, one 500 MHz and two 600 MHz NMR spectrometers (partly in open access operation), all from the Bruker company. They are mainly used in the structural elucidation of new small and medium-sized natural products and medicines. The tasks include management of the operation and maintenance of the NMR instruments themselves and liaison with external maintenance engineers, when necessary. Three experienced technicians are available to assist in routine maintenance and measurement operations, working under your guidance. Your tasks will also include the training of instrument users and participation in spectroscopy-related teaching courses at Bachelors and/or Masters level, and supervision of the software, data, and network aspects of the NMR service. You are also to provide scientific advice to the staff of all the Institute's working groups on the selection of suitable NMR measurement techniques and the evaluation of their spectra, and to be involved in their research projects for this purpose. NMR instruments are also operated by other institutes at Leibniz University Hannover and you will liaise and exchange information with these groups. Personal and collaborative research work is welcome within the framework of the available working and spectrometer time.

The prerequisite for employment is a completed Phd degree in chemistry, preferably specialised in small molecule and/or natural product chemistry, teaching experience as well as several years of experience in the operation and maintenance of high field NMR spectrometers, including the scientific and theoretical background. Ideally, we are looking for a PhD scientist, who is well acquainted with all current NMR measurement techniques, but also with the technical support and maintenance of NMR instruments.

Leibniz University Hannover considers itself a family-friendly university and therefore promotes a balance between work and family responsibilities. Part-time employment can be arranged upon request. The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented. Women are under-represented in the salary scale of the advertised position. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Moreover, we welcome applications from qualified men. Preference will be given to equally-qualified applicants with disabilities.
