Everyone,

I want to let everyone know that after 21 years as the Manager of the NMR
Facility in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, I have resigned
from my position. I have moved to the College of Pharmacy at the University
of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. My new email is
susan-nimmo_at_ouhsc.edu.

I do not know if they will post the job on AMMRL or not. The current chairman
has declined my offer to help them transition to a new person. Currently, I
have been replaced by three part time graduate students. A "fill team"
consisting of two graduate students with a 0.2 FTE added to their TA jobs and
one graduate student with a 0.5 FTE to train and maintain instrumentation.
Thankfully, they have one professor with filling experience to supervise them.
They requested a 30-minute helium filling training for the "fill team". It
was quite difficult to convince them that this was a terrible idea. I wasn't
willing to give a training like that. So- it made for an unhappy parting where
I was told by the chair that he would be putting a "formal reprimand" into my
"permanent Personnel file" for "disobeying a direct order". This was in meeting
with "Committe A", the chair and the assistant chair. They all went along with
him, like threatening me to do a very unsafe thing was a good idea. I was very
glad when the previous solid state NMR professor stepped up to help with the
filling. It wasn't necessary to have new students filling helium on their own
as there are two people in the building with experience. The chair just didn't
believe that helium filling is a specialized and somewhat dangerous activity.

If anyone would like more information about my previous job, please contact
me. I have heard that they will be posting the job sometime in the next
month or so. Supposedly, a big change to the job description with a large
teaching component. There are four older Agilent Systems: 300, 400, 500 and
600. They have had very little downtime for many years, so the expectation
is that a part time graduate student can keep them maintained and running.

I just wanted to let everyone know how you can reach me. I will only be
taking care of one magnet. It is a 500 NMR JEOL that is being set up right
now. It is brand new. I will also be doing quite a bit of HPLC and LC-MS.
It is exciting to learn some new things. I am hoping to be a big contributor
to my new research group. I am so thankful for this new research opportunity.

Sincerely,
Susan Nimmo
