Job description
The Fragment based Drug Discovery Group is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist I or II (depending on experience) to be based at our corporate headquarters in North Chicago, IL.
Key Responsibilities
Design NMR experiments for fragment screening (both 1D and 2D) Set-up of NMR spectrometer for collection of 1D and 2D screening data and for collection of protein-ligand NOE data to enable NOE-guided ligand docking Process and analyze NMR screening data and NOE data Set up and troubleshoot 1D, 2D, and 3D experiments taken from literature Prepare protein samples for NMR based fragment screening including buffer optimization Assist with maintaining and repairing spectrometers, where necessary Maintain accurate and timely records of experiment results Interact with other members of the Fragment-based Drug Discovery team in order to evaluate where NMR methods can be most effectively employed Communicate results of NMR based fragment screens to project teams Present results at internal meetings and external scientific meetings as appropriate Publish experiment results in peer-reviewed journals as appropriate Work with molecular models, cheminformatics specialists, and synthetic chemists to enable fragment elaboration Evaluate the scientific literature critically and adopt novel technologies which will facilitate fragment-based drug discovery AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) is a global, research-based biopharmaceutical company formed in 2013 following separation from Abbott Laboratories.

Basic Qualifications
PhD; MS; or BS Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field with typically 4+ years (PhD); 10+ years (MS); or 12+ years (BS) of experience with high-resolution NMR spectroscopy, especially design, set-up, troubleshooting, and interpretation of 1D, 2D, and 3D experiments Detail-oriented regarding documentation and data management Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects and rapidly adjust to changing priorities
