I'm wondering how often Varian Inova users have experiments abort with FIF0 underflow
errors? Does anyone have a solution? Our Sun based Inova 600 running VNMRj 2.1B seems to
have this problem every few weeks or so, depending on the particular sequence. While this
may not seem that often, it is very annoying if student a looses a long 2D or 3D experiment after
waiting to get on the instrument. Some sequences seem worse than others, but even pretty mundane
things like gChsqc from BioPack and even s2pul have caused the problem.
I think that this has been discussed on this group before, but does anyone have a cure for
problems with Varian probe VT connectors? These things become intermittent very quickly,
and cause erratic VT operation. I think the problem arises because two of the pins in the DB9
type connector have been replaced with copper and constantan in order to avoid spurious thermocouple
potentials in the connector itself. However, these two materials don't have the best properties as
connector pins. Proper thermocouple connectors are considerably more robust. We have these
problems on both of our liquids probes and the Chemmagnetics VT stack for our solids probes.
Replacing the cable helped for a while, but the problems returned.
Cheers
