Dear Colleagues:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at my university is seeking a
new faculty member who will have credentials suitable for teaching
biochemistry but who also can conduct a vigorous research program
emphasizing biomolecular NMR.
Our lone remaining protein-NMR scientist is about to take a position
elsewhere and we have a spectrometer that is designed very specifically for
protein work. Our Varian Inova 500 has four channels, configured full-band,
high-band, low-band, low-band, each with a waveform generator. We have used
the pulse sequences from the Lewis Kay group and all our parameters have
been carefully refined for multidimensional studies of labeled proteins. I
am told that our data is often superior to that obtained on similar
higher-field instruments.
If you know of someone who is perhaps about to finish a protein NMR
postdoc, I would be interested in recruiting someone to keep my 500 MHz
instrument busy doing what it is intended to do. Other research and
teaching NMR will take place on our new Inova 300wb and a Mercury 400 about
to be purchased, so there will be little competition for 500 MHz NMR time.
Containing the Shawnee National Forest and several large lakes, Southern
Illinois provides an excellent lifestyle - there is abundant natural beauty
and opportunity for a variety of outdoor recreation.
I will be very grateful for your help in identifying candidates for this
position.
