Suns & VXR's, backups

Hello all,

Someone must have dealt with this recently. I'm still running a kluged
(sp?) 300 MHz system involving a VXR console with a differential SCSI box +
HAL. I foresee that if any card in the acquisition cage craps out, I'm in
trouble. (Only certain revisions of the Acq ctrl, HAL, STM, and input will
work together.) However, for now it still runs.

(1) I'd like to buy one of those zippy new Blades to replace my SPARC 5. It
will come with Solaris 8 or 9. If I reload in 32 bit mode (an option
still?) can I get the SCSI driver I need for the diff box?

(2) What is your opinion of the best way to do system backups? The Blades
come with USB and IEEE 1394 ports, but not my Ultra 5 or Ultra 10's.
However, the Ultras have PCI slots and there are PCI cards for USB and
firewire. But what device/media to choose and are there Solaris drivers
available for the card and device?

(3) Also would like to plug a CD burner in for providing users with
periodic data archives. I have a free USB HP8200.

Will post summary. I think my biggest drive is 8 GB but probably 4 GB is as
much space as I take up.

Bill
