Suppressing Printing header and ending pages- Gradient Shimming Issue Solved

Dear AMMRL members:

1. Unwanted Printer First and Last Pages:
I have a Sun Blade 2000 connected to an HP Laser. This is also networked to a PC running Windows XP using Samba. When I print a document from the PC the printer first prints a header page saying the following document is coming from IP address xxxx, etc. The document is then printed followed by a blank page. How do I stop these first and last pages? Is this a Sun Solaris, a Samba, or a Windows XP setting that needs changing?

2. Gradient Shimming Issue Solved:
As I reported a few months ago, my Mercury 400 with a Nalorac PFG indirect detection probe was not gradient shimming properly. the line shape of the solvent was superb. The solute peaks were assymetric and jagged and broad. After a lot of work trouble shooting by Varian, the things that seemed to do the trick were to adjust the room temperature shim cooling air to a lower rate, and put a 2 minute delay for D2O and 4 minute delay for CDCl3 prior to gradient shimming. The issue is a thermal gradient in the sample that requires equilibration. I have run a few hundred D2O samples and the line shapes are great.

Thanks for all the advice from AMMRL members.

Best regards,

Pat Hays
