Dear group:
I have a VXR-300 which was upgraded from the VXR-4000 data system to diff
box-HAL-Sun in 1999. I used to run Solaris 2.6 on a SPARC 5. Now I am
running Solaris 8 on an UItra-10.
I have lost the ability to use my vnmr_accounting software. The patch
clusters for VNMR6.1C that alleviate this problem do not include the VXR/S.
I am afraid to install a patch cluster for any other spectrometer for fear
that I will mess up data acquisition.
The accounting software is in /vnmr/adm/bin. Apparently, the problem is
that the login record used changed name from wtmp to wtmpx in Solaris 8.
The executables acc_vnmr and view_acctng are scripts and could be edited,
but they call the utility console_login, which is binary and which seeks wtmp.
I do not know what to do. If someone sent me a patched console_login, could
I simply overwrite that file and make sure all scripts refer to wtmpx
instead of wtmp?
My VXR-300 is approaching its 17th year. I keep telling people that the
time is coming when I will not be able to fix it any more. They don't
believe me. (Funny, nobody ever compliments me on my work but they have
unshakeable faith that I can fix anything. I guess faith doesn't cost $$$.)
Help?!
