THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON
NMR ELECTRONIC SPECIALIST
CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

The University of Akron seeks to hire an electronics specialist to maintain
instrumentation in its NMR Center. The center contains Varian
Unityplus-750, Unityplus-200 (widebore solids), VXR-300, Gemini-300 and
Techmag200 (widebore solids) NMR spectrometers. The position also requires
that occasional assistance be provided to maintain Gemini-200, XL-400
(widebore) and Chemagnetics-200 (widebore solids) NMR spectrometers in the
Department of Polymer Science. The lab is equipped with a complete set of
Rf electronics test equipment, magnet power supplies, and other specialized
equipment and tools needed to work with modern NMR instruments. The person
filling this position will report to the Director of the Molecular
Spectroscopy Lab, and will also have the assistance of a full-time NMR
spectroscopist and a full-time computer network manager. The successful
candidate should have some formal training in electronics (college degree,
military training or equivalent), experience with the maintenance and repair
of high-resolution superconducting NMR instruments and magnets (experience
with Varian instruments is preferred); and will be expected to maintain and
repair instruments and probes, perform magnet service and maintenance assist
with the design and construction of new NMR probes and accessories, and
assist with the repair of other teaching and research instruments in the
