Hi All,
For NMR, we use MagRes which was originally developed at U.Penn and then G
eorge Furst and I had it developed further. You can see the interface here:
https://reservations.chem.columbia.edu/index.php
The best thing about this is its ease of use and extensive customized rules
but it only does reservation, no actual usage accounting. I got our IT people
to take it over a few years ago so I couldn’t really help anyone with
installation anymore but its just standard MySQL/PHP stuff. It’s likely too
much bother unless you want to mess with it and already know SQL/PHP web stuff.
If money is not a problem, then I recommend Idea Elon’s Infinity software.
I oversee other cores and we have used this now for > 5 years. It not only does
reservations but it allows control of instruments via either interlocks that
disable monitors, or, on Windows, startup scripts so that accounting on actual
usage can be done. It can also do accounting on reservation time as well. The
program has support and developers but it’s a subscription model and
requires an annual fee on the order of $5-10K depending on your needs. It is
web based and has a mobile app.
Another reservation/accounting program that has support and is subscription
based in Badger. Badger is an easy to use and also works with interlocks to
disable monitors so that accounting can be done on actual usage. Downside is
it is Java based and though they were working on a mobile non-java app,
I’m not sure of its status. It’s a bit cheaper than Idea Elon.
Our materials core still uses Badger.
I’m sure Badger and Idea Elon would gladly demo their software. Both
offer first rate support. Neither has much history in the NMR community as
far as I know.
