Re: [AMMRL] Managing instrument use

Hi Ken
Since our NEO500 with Prodigy cryo + SampleCase is the first all access
instrument that could be meaningfully automated, we are, as of now, just
leveraging the Automation and Accounting system of IconNMR.

Traditionally, in our facility, we had always maintained the 8 am to 6 pm
to be 'walk-on' time where one cannot do anything longer than 60 minutes,
at a time. Of course, we still have the same web based Calendar
Reseravation backend program (that was developed in-house) that is
handling this for all of our other instruments.

For NEO500, we use the Night/Day demarcation feature of IconNMR to more
or less align that instruments use with the above model. Other than that,
the users simply drop off the tubes in the carousel, click submit and walk
away. So, when someone submits a 13C with 200 microM sample, IconNMR
assigns, based on the duration of the actual experiment, that this
experiment is pushed to the Night queue. The configuration in IconNMR
also allows one to define what times and days are marked as 'Night mode'.
For instance, we can choose whole of Saturday and Sunday to be 'Night' mode
and so, a user submitting a long experiment on Saturday at 10 am, will be
immediately served.

That's my bit of spice added to the mixture !

Best
Rajan
