Dear Ammrlers,

We are in the process of installing a direct helium liquefier from Quantum
Design for the 7 nmr magnets in the lab. We were told that a back pressure
controller (BPC) is required for each magnet so that the magnets will not
affect each other. To our surprise, the BPCs are very expensive, over $10k
each. If you have experience with helium recovery systems, would you shed
lights on the following questions:

1. Is a BPC necessary between a nmr magnet and the helium liquefier?

2. What vendors carry the BPCs for nmr magnets ?

3. For pumped magnets (e.g. old 800MHz), does the helium exhaust from
the pump have to be purified before going to the helium liquefier? What
purification method do you use / recommend?

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Jerry
