Hi all,
We've been seeing some intermittent issues on our AVANCE III Nanobay (v1, TopSpin 3.6.0 and now 3.6.2 on Windows 7) where acquisition starts as normal, pulsing takes place, but then no data is returned along with the error:
"Error during interpretation of line 0 (intrinsic):
bad word
- FIFO: usage = 1-1024/16385, loaded = 10 + 0w in 0 F-DMAs
- FBUF: usage = 0/1563530, loaded = 0 + 0w in 0 M-DMAs (act=0)
-XconStatus = from /dev/tctrl1"
I've seen this occur for atma, topshim, or acquisition with a wide variety of pulse sequences. There tend to be a wide variety of other errors that follow this, but this seems to be the initiating one. A similar error occurs during normal operation with "empty FIFO: try longer relaxation delay." when you try to run an experiment that is too large for the pulse programmer memory.
I saw this a couple of times about 2 years ago, but couldn't reproduce the error so Bruker couldn't help me at the time, and it went away as mysteriously as it started. About the same time last year it reappeared, but even repeated console restarts wouldn't clear the problem. Its been infuriatingly difficult to reproduce, but some of its characteristics are:
Sometimes it goes away on the very next experiment, but most of the time it doesn't.
Sometimes an ii helps to clear the problem.
Sometimes a hard restart of the console (along with the usual ii's) helps.
It often (but not always) fails IPSO fast self-tests, but with different failed tests when it does
The last time I had this problem I think I submitted a ticket to Bruker and turned the console off for a 1-2 weeks, and out of frustration turned it back on and it acted as if it had never happened. Only this time now it appears to be back again.
Has anybody seen this sort of thing before? Does anyone have any ideas about what else we could try to troubleshoot?
Thanks!
Geoff
