AMMRL: Helium bill -- how long will the reserve last?

Hi All,

Along with many of you I am breathing a sigh of relief that political shenanigans have not sharply disrupted our helium supply. Thank you to all those that wrote, lobbied, and helped organize action on this!

Based on what I have read, the helium reserve now has about 10 billion cubic feet of helium remaining and has been supplying helium at about 2 billion cubic feet per year. The 2013 Helium Reserve act directs the government to hang on to 3 billion cubic feet, so as far as I can tell, there are only about 3-4 years of helium remaining at current supply levels.

Here we are starting to recover and liquify helium, with the expectation that helium will be much more scarce (and expensive) in a few years. It is still a learning process for us.

What are your predictions for the future of our helium supply?

Eric.
